This song is reputedly the most popular and requested Irish ballad ever, perhaps due to the success of the international hit by the Irish rock band 'Thin Lizzy'. The song, about a highwayman who is betrayed by his wife or lover, is also one of the most widely performed traditional Irish songs and has been recorded by numerous artists since the 1950s.

Irish artists who have recorded a version of the tune include The Dubliners, The Pogues and of course Thin Lizzy while international acts include The Highwaymen, Bryan Adams and heavy metal band Metallica! Enjoy
